Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida Medicare Supplements

The state of Florida takes health care very seriously.  This state has some of the strictest insurance standards in the country.  Insurance companies that choose to operate here must be licensed and registered by the state.   Insurance agents must also obtain the proper licenses to sell policies to state residents.  Even with all of the measures set in place to ensure residents get quality services, there are still several steps you must take when deciding to obtain Florida health insurance coverage for yourself and your family.

When you are looking for Florida health insurance coverage in the form of an individual plan, try to obtain a policy that is a guaranteed issue policy.  Guaranteed issue means that you can't be denied coverage due to a pre-existing condition, your claims history, or your health status.  Unfortunately, laws in Florida do allow insurance companies to turn down your application for a policy due to certain conditions, so if you can afford a guaranteed issue plan, it may be well worth any extra costs in the premiums.

During the application process for securing Florida health insurance coverage, you will need to fill out quite a bit of paperwork, depending on the insurance company. Some of the questions you will need to answer are your age, your marital status, your health history, your tobacco use, any pre-existing conditions, and your previous healthcare coverage.  If you are applying for a plan that includes a spouse and/or dependents, you will also need to fill out appropriate information for them as well.  It is extremely important that you fill these papers out as accurately as possible.  You can be denied coverage, if it turns out you did not include all the facts about your health, whether the omission was deliberate or inadvertent.

Once you have completed the paperwork, you will likely be asked to get a physical exam and to have certain blood tests performed.  It is only after these tests that you will hear whether your application for Florida health insurance coverage has been approved or denied.  You will also receive the actual premium price for your policy at that time.  Donýt be surprised if your premium is increased due to facts that came out in the course of your physical or blood test results.  If you find the cost is out of your budget, donýt feel you are locked in to the policy.  Sit down with your agent to see you how you might be able to tweak the plan to be more affordable before you sign and pay.
