IThe state of Florida health insurance industry is very well regulated.  This state has some of the strictest insurance standards in the country.  Insurance companies that choose to operate here must be licensed and registered by the state.   Insurance agents must also obtain the proper licenses to sell policies to state residents.  The state maintains a comprehensive website for consumers to get information about insurance carriers and their agents who are operating in the state.

If you are considering obtaining coverage for state of Florida health insurance in the form of an individual policy from a private carrier, take a look a guaranteed issue plan.  Guaranteed issue means that you can't be denied coverage due to a pre-existing condition, your claims history, or your health status.  Unfortunately, laws in Florida do allow insurance companies to turn down your application for a policy due to certain conditions, so you will want to discuss those conditions with your licensed agent.

During the application process for securing state of Florida health insurance coverage, you will need to fill out a detailed questionnaire. Some of the questions you will need to answer are your age, your marital status, your health history, your tobacco use, any pre-existing conditions, and your previous healthcare coverage.  If you are applying for a plan that includes a spouse and/or dependents, you will also need to fill out appropriate information for them as well.  When you complete this paperwork, you must be as thorough and forthcoming as possible.  You can be denied coverage, if it turns out you did not include all the facts about your health, whether the omission was deliberate or accidental.

Once you have completed the necessary paperwork, you will likely be asked to get a physical exam and to have certain blood tests performed.  Once the results from your exam and your tests are submitted, a determination will be made regarding the approval of your state of Florida health insurance. You will also receive the final premium price for your policy at that time.  You should be prepared for the fact that the final premium price may be quite different from the original quote.  If the final cost is not an amount you are able to realistically handle with your current budget, donýt be shy in asking your agent to help find ways to make the plan more affordable.
